Thanks for your interest in contributing to femaleentrepreneurs.co.uk! Here’s everything you need to know about writing for our community.

What We’re Looking For

Topics We Love

  • Your entrepreneurial journey (the real version – wins AND struggles)
  • Practical business tips from your actual experience
  • Marketing strategies that worked for you
  • Mindset and confidence-building
  • Work-life balance (especially for single parents!)
  • Specific challenges you’ve overcome in business
  • Industry-specific insights from your niche
  • Tools, resources, or tactics you actually use
  • Financial tips for bootstrapped businesses

Topics We’ll Skip

  • Overly promotional “buy my course” content
  • Anything that feels like corporate buzzword bingo
  • Hustle culture messaging
  • Unrealistic “I made £10k in my first month” claims

Content Requirements

Length

  • Minimum: 800 words
  • Sweet spot: 1,000-1,500 words
  • Maximum: 2,000 words (unless it’s truly exceptional)

Style & Tone

  • Conversational – write like you’re chatting with a friend over coffee
  • Authentic – share the real stuff, not the Instagram highlight reel
  • Practical – give actionable advice, not just theory
  • Inclusive – no gatekeeping or “only successful people will get this” vibes

Structure

Your article should include:

  • Engaging headline (we may tweak this for SEO)
  • Strong introduction that hooks the reader
  • Clear subheadings to break up the text
  • Actionable takeaways readers can actually use
  • Personal examples from your own experience (this is what makes it valuable!)

What You’ll Get

Your Author Profile

  • Byline with your name
  • Bio (100 words max) about you and your business
  • One link to your website
  • One link to your primary social media account
  • Optional headshot (professional or casual – your choice)

Promotion

  • Featured on our blog at femaleentrepreneurs.co.uk
  • Shared across our social media channels
  • Permanent archive on our site (we don’t remove guest posts)

Submission Guidelines

What to Send

  1. Your article in a Google Doc, Word document or Pages
  2. Your bio (100 words or less)
  3. Links you want included (website + 1 social media)
  4. Headshot (optional but recommended)
  5. 2-3 relevant images if you have them (optional – we can source stock images)

Formatting Basics

  • Use subheadings (H2, H3) to break up sections
  • Include bullet points or numbered lists where appropriate
  • Add bold for emphasis (but don’t go overboard)
  • Include links to resources you mention (but not competitors!)
  • No excessive capitalisation or exclamation marks

Images

  • If you include images, make sure you have rights to use them
  • Stock photos are fine (we use Unsplash/Pexels)
  • Screenshots from your own work are great
  • Infographics you’ve created are welcome
  • Please credit photographers/designers if required

Editorial Process

What Happens Next

  1. Initial review (1-3 days) – I’ll let you know if it’s a good fit
  2. Edits (if needed) – I might suggest tweaks for clarity, flow, or SEO
  3. Final approval – You get to review any changes before publishing
  4. Publishing – We’ll schedule your post and let you know when it goes live
  5. Promotion – We’ll share across our channels and you’re free to share too!

Our Editorial Standards

  • We may edit for clarity, grammar, or flow
  • We’ll optimise headlines and subheadings for SEO
  • We might add internal links to relevant resources
  • We reserve the right to not publish content that doesn’t align with our values
  • All content must be original (no republishing from other sites)

Important Rules

Content Ownership

  • You retain ownership of your content
  • We get non-exclusive rights to publish it on our site
  • You can republish it elsewhere after 30 days (but please link back to us!)

No-Nos

  • Plagiarism – all content must be your own original work
  • Excessive self-promotion – one subtle mention of your services is fine, but this isn’t a sales pitch
  • Affiliate links – not allowed in guest posts
  • Competitor mentions – don’t promote other female entrepreneur communities
  • Unverified claims – if you’re citing stats or studies, include sources

Links

  • One link to your website in your bio
  • One link to your social media in your bio
  • Contextual links within the article are fine if genuinely relevant (not promotional)
  • All links must be to reputable, relevant sources
  • No link schemes or dodgy SEO tactics

Timeline Expectations

  • Response time: I’ll respond to submissions within 3 business days
  • Editing: Allow 1-2 weeks for any requested revisions
  • Publishing: Once approved, posts typically go live within 2-4 weeks
  • Rush requests: Not available – quality over speed!
